Those of us who use Adwords to drive traffic to our sites spend a LOT of money (going up all the time I might add) for the privelege. Of course, we hope to get a good conversion rate and eek out a profit. But…there is more that we can do with this data that we’ve paid for. It amazes me how many people don’t take the time to do this.
The general idea, is to find high volume keywords, that convert, and have low organic search engine ranking competition. Here’s how I go about it.
- I make a list of my high ctr, high converting, high traffic keywords by looking in adwords editor and slicing/dicing/sorting keywords and stats. You could also just use the adwords web interface.
- I go into the logs of the my site (google analytics, awestats, webalizer etc. ) and I get the top 100 or so kw phrases that drove traffic to the site. This will get you the ones that you “don’t know about”. The ones that were probably triggered by broad match kw’s. For example…you may be bidding on “acne treatments”, and find that you’re getting lots of traffic from “acne natural treatments” (of course, this would also be good to put as a new kw phrase into adwords too!). I add these to the list.
- I fire up market samurai, and I filter down until I get to the top 3-5 kw phrases with high volume and low organic search competition.
- I use these keywords as SEO targets!
Give it a try, and make sure you’re getting every penny’s worth of the big bucks you’re paying Google.

Steve
Thanks for the great advice again. It hate to think about how many years I have been just bidding on keywords and not really looking at the data other then to see what my CPC was. I know that I have wasted most of the money by over paying on the wrong keywords and then not really running the reports that could have given me some insight into were my money was going.
Thanks

Again Steve, you always go the extra mile to help and teach others. I have spent thousands of dollars on how to learn internet marketing. If you guys who are watching this want to learn and do it with someone who is honest and not just want yoour money, go to Commission Blueprint. This is the only program I have kept up on my monthly payment. All the others I would quit before the second month if not before. Check it out or keep wasting your money until your ready for the real deal. Steve, thanks again for this information I enjoy it and as always extremely informative. I look forward to your next broadcast.

Thanks to the CB advice I’m getting all my clicks for under .08 and a very good portion of them for .ol . Yours is the first product I’ve purchased, and I’ve purchased many, that gives ALL the info. I recommend it whole-heartedly. I’m using the keyword advice every week right now for scaling my projects. Works like a charm.

Steve,
Just stated with your Commission Blueprint System. I’ve never done Google Adwords or PPC Marketing; although, I’ve heard of the horror stories.
What I gather is that, for everything in life, there is a process or formula to guide you. So, this marketing medium is no different and I’m not about to jump in blindly, like others have, and lose my….I’ll definitely need to keep two windows open to journey through the process. I’ll keep you posted.
Peace!

Hey John…just take it slow! don’t get discouraged, and don’t expect to just “get” it all right away! It’ll happen, if you just stick with it!

Great post Steve. May I also add that using the data to see the actual search queries that generated a visit to the site should also uncover many negative keywords that should be added to your AdWords Account to stop any wasted and irrelevant paid traffic reaching your site.
